Learn how to make a bold statement of RED…!
Learn how to make a bold statement of RED…!
It happens every other day when I wear my red coat… several people stop me and say, “I love this!
Where did you get that from?!” Yes, when we make a bold statement with a scarlet hue, we get noticed. And the same thing goes for our homes. In fact, I get the same type of compliments on the red curtains in my bed room. There’s just something about the way they pop against the pale almond colour of my bedroom wall.
Bold colours and especially the colour “RED” are very daring to be used as a fashion statement in your interiors as well as in your personal dressing. This week’s article is going to let your fear of using bold colour fly away forever as today we celebrate by featuring a selection of images that show the true power of this bold hue, as well as its design potential. Sure, you could paint a room in your home red. But if that’s not an option or you’d rather leave the walls white, you can also buy a piece of furniture in this radiant colour! Red is the colour that can never go out and it’s a great way to make a dramatic statement. And as you’ll see, a little goes a long way… Happy browsing!

Red
Red is the most powerful colour of the colour wheel. Red is the colour of fire and passion, and it represents our desires and cravings in all areas. Red can be seen as a stressful colour and has been shown to increase heart rate and blood pressure, so use it with caution. Red has been shown to stimulate the appetite and conversation but if you're on a diet, maybe you could try blue instead?
Red is the hottest colour of the spectrum and can make anywhere seem warm and cosy, so is ideal for people who suffer from the cold. Red is not a good choice where calmness and clear thinking are
required, it’s energetic frequency is not conductive to areas where rest is needed, so it’s not a good choice for relaxation areas.
As with other colours, the psychological effects of red depend very much on its intensity. So while vibrant, saturated hues of red have been shown to raise people's heart rate and blood pressure, you might feel quite comfortable with muted, warm, earthy shades of red around you, for example:
· red ochre
· venetian red
· brick red
That's the type of red where you get all the warmth, comfort and energy, but with none of the exaggerated pulse.

Secrets to the Colour Red
# 1: The first secret to using the colour red in the home is using it in moderation. Too much of anything can become an eyesore, and this goes for colours as well. While some colours are not as easily overdone as the colour red, there are still many that are. Using the colour red throughout the
home can be a little bit tricky, but first and foremost think-moderation.
# 2: There are likely thousands if not millions of different shades of the colour red. Another big secret to using this colour throughout the home is choosing the shade that fits best. Warm colours are more vibrant and energetic while cool colours are toned down and calm. A nice warm red is great for a kitchen area or the family room while a cool toned red is great for the bedroom.
# 3: Using the colour red around the home as an accent colour is often the best idea. Start small with some accent pieces such as throw pillows on a couch to spice the room up or an area rug that includes various red tones to add some life to the living room or dining area. If small accents work well for you and your taste, then you may begin adding some larger pieces into the home that are also the colour red.
Try a few red vases or sculptures in the dining room, or maybe a painting that is primarily the colour red in a room. As you find the tones and the shades of the colour that you appreciate the most you may use it more and more. Just remember that moderation is always the key so no matter how much you come to enjoy the colour red do not overdo it!
# 4: Wall colour plays a huge role in the colour choices that you should make when it comes to the rest of the homes’ interior. When choosing to use the colour red as a wall colour it is best to stick to accent walls and not entire rooms. Paint the bearing wall red or paint only part of a wall red with a wallpaper separating the zones. Choose a wall colour that will be inviting and not too dark. Remember that when using the colour red on the walls the paint will make the room feel smaller if it is too dark so keep the colour as light as possible in small rooms.
# 5: Red furniture has become increasingly popular throughout the recent years. For a contemporary look, a red sofa can be placed in a living room and it will add style and class to the appeal of the room. If you choose to use red furniture in a room then you must coordinate the accents with the colour scheme as well. Wall coverings and glassware are all great accent pieces to use in a room that has red furniture. Do not paint the walls the colour red if the furniture in the room is also red as this will be an overabundance of the colour and will take away the appeal.

Red Furnishings That Inspire
Let’s start with a little inspiration. Below you will find images of rooms featuring red furnishings… Just like a woman in a red dress can light up a room, a chair upholstered in red leather can be the true focal point of your interior. Use it as the one bright spot in your space, or combine it with other rich tones.
White walls, light wood, red chairs… Perfect! In fact, red is a popular colour for dining chairs and kitchen stools. There’s something about this colour that stimulates the appetite. Maybe it’s because furniture covered in red looks good enough to eat!
As I’ve mentioned in one of my earlier article that red is particularly stunning in rooms with white, gray and black accents. It’s modern as well as dramatic as red is the ultimate colour of “attraction” as I tag it.
Speaking of red dining chairs, the result of a red coffee table can be just as stunning. It’s like merging of a bright centerpiece with the rest of the space like vintage-meets-modern living space. Yellow and orange are other prominent colours to be used after red as they belong to the same family of colours. The combination of this family of colour is always radiant against the backdrop of white walls.
Nothing makes work more interesting like a vibrant red desk! Our eyes would be drawn to the desk in a room. Perhaps painting your desk red will have a magnetic effect, drawing you to your work space for the most productive of sessions… This for me is an attractive way for working because otherwise work and its related furnishing are always boring for me and tends to make me lose interest very easily. Work spaces should be vibrant so that it makes you more energetic and lively and fun thing to do rather than stressing and boring. Red does stimulate your mood and makes one more energetic.
Don’t forget that combining red with other vivid shades can be absolutely stunning!

HIGHEST EARNING ACTORS
HIGHEST EARNING ACTORS

AAMIR KHAN
Paycheck: Rs 0.68 billion and Rs 0.24 billion per endorsement
Does he deserve it? Aamir is a little choosy when it comes to picking his roles; but his sensible choices are always successful. This Bollywood perfectionist may do one movie a year, but he will make sure it is a blockbuster. Deserving? That would be an understatement. Aamir is in a class of his own when it comes to delivering sure-fire hits.

SHAH RUKH KHAN
Paycheck: Rs 0.46-0.60 billion
Does he deserve it? Shah Rukh charged a nominal Rs 0.60 billion for ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and almost the same for ‘Chennai Express.’ Even though he languishes behind the top three earners, his audience appeal got a huge boost with ‘Chennai Express’ a hit thanks to his puling power. Shah Rukh has admitted to raising his charges (some might say over charging) for endorsements and stage shows so he could under-
charge movie producers as he owes them his stardom.
SALMAN KHAN
Paycheck: Rs 0.86 billion and Rs 0.17 billion per endorsement plus 33 per cent of a film’s profit sharing.
Does he deserve it? Bollywood’s hottest bachelor currently tops the list when it comes to the industry’s highest paid actors. For ‘Ek The Tiger’ last year, he charged the huge sum of Rs 0.86 billion and the film set a new record breaking benchmark too. It is Salman’s star power that attracts the audience to the theatres. No one doubts his magnetic ability to bring in paying punters to the cinema, he single handedly sets cash registers ringing (even if the movie is lacks a credible plot). He also has a trademark,
non-conformist dance style.
RANBIR KAPOOR
Paycheck: Rs 0.26 billion
Does he deserve it? Ranbir is amongst the hottest actors in the industry today; one of the few with more hits than misses on his CV. 2013 has been a great year for the star with ‘Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani’s’ stellar success. Despite the dismal ‘Besharam,’ with his proven track record, he deserves
every bit he demands!
SAIF ALI KHAN
Paycheck: Rs 0.30 billion for ‘Race’ 2 plus 25 per cent profit sharing.
Does he deserve it? Five years ago, Saif Ali Khan was out of the picture, but his downward trajectory changed course with ‘Love Aaj Kal;’ his pairing with Deepika is loved by the audience (’Race 2’ and ‘Cocktail’). After a few box-office successes, Saif hiked his price
from Rs 0.22 billion in the year 2010 to Rs 0.30 billion this year. Saif’s movies might not be based around brilliant concepts but they never fail to entertain audiences.
AJAY DEVGN
Paycheck: Rs 0.34-0.40 billion plus co-production of his movies.
Does she deserve it? They Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty combination has always worked wonderfully; both ‘Bol Bachchan’ and ‘Singham’ took this partnership straight to the top of the box-office takings. Ajay prefers to call the shots when it comes to co-producing the movies he acts in and is equally active in marketing strategies. With all the comedy, action and entertainment, Ajay deserves that fat pay cheque.

Saif Ali Khan
‘All men must marry much younger women’
by KATHIKA KANDPAL
There’s an old world charisma about him. Yet he’s the metaphor of new age ‘cool’. He’s the actor who’s moved beyond the fickle Fridays

What’s the fun of playing a gangster as you did in the recent ‘Bullett Raja’?
I enjoyed playing cops and robbers as a child. Playing the robber was more fun than playing the cop. Al Pacino’s ‘Scarface’ is the best gangster film I’ve ever watched. I’ve always wanted to play a role like that. Twenty two years into my career, I finally got the chance with ‘Bullett Raja’. I did play Langda Tyagi, a gangster in ‘Omkara’. But he was a villain while Raja Mishra in ‘Bullet Raja’ is a hero.

How have you changed as an actor?
I look better, I act better, I have become calmer, more patient.

Being uber-cool, you could fit in Hollywood as well?
You would have to earn your way there. You have to move to Los Angeles and begin your struggle. Our industry is exploding. One day our special effects will become incredible. One day we will rival Hollywood.

Has marriage to Kareena Kapoor the best thing that has happened to you?
Of course I can say that. (Laughs) No, it’s not the best thing, it’s a good thing that has happened to me. (Thinks) Okay, it is the best thing that has happened to me.

What has Kareena added to your life?
Stability and checkered tablecloths!
Stability and checkered tablecloths!
Kareena says you have introduced her to a life beyond the movies…
I was lucky I grew up in a home where my mother was a successful actress and my father a famous cricketer. There was life beyond movies, in terms of conversation and experience. Stardom doesn’t last forever. The idea is not to end up lost and depressed when it’s gone. You also have to enjoy life. Kareena’s a great partner to experience these things with. We both have a similar spirit of adventure. Last time, we visited Florence. We travelled alone with just a map in our hands. There was a warm sense of togetherness. We were tourists. We ate pizza in a quiet place. We enjoyed all that.

What do you enjoy when you’re not shooting?
Reading, fishing, travelling, trekking, watching TV… I watch American TV shows. Recently, I have been watching Da Vinci’s Demons, Suits and Modern Family.

People say age gap affects a relationship…
I’d advise all men to marry much younger and beautiful women. (Laughs) How is it a great thing? It’s fairly obvious.

Has Kareena surprised you with her maturity?
I usually expect her to be. On a serious note, I think we are fine. Men mature a little later and women age faster. A 43-year-old man is actually like a 25-year-old. Alec Baldwin said in 30 Rock, “A rich 50 is more like a regular guy at 38.” You should be on the same energy level with your partner despite the age gap. You shouldn’t be too tired and want to go to sleep when she wants to… go dancing!
What works in your relationship with Kareena?
The fact that we lead our own lives and enjoy our space. We come home and relax together. We like doing the same things. I don’t enjoy ‘boy’s night out’. I have a career, which takes me to places and also gives us space.
