katrina kaif interveiw

Her tresses cascade over her shoulders. Her bee stung lips look as if they would drip any minute. Those Jack Daniel eyes can give you a high, which no alcohol can. It’s not for nothing Katrina Kaif’s called a testosterone magnet. Men go weak kneed at the mere mention of her name. Women look at her with envy, wishing they had what she does. We’re sitting in her living room. Dressed in her T-shirt and pajamas, she looks like a toned down version of a movie star. Her success story remains enigmatic. She’s however nonchalant about it. Personally, it’s being reported that she’s Ranbir Kapoor’s love interest. She refuses to be drawn on that. Over the years, she’s become inaccessible to the press. And she blames the media for it. She opens the door just a little and lets you catch a glimpse of the real Katrina Kaif. Excerpts:
Q. Three things we don’t know about you…
A
There should be a mystery about a star. Why should you know everything? Why should we be so open? It’s not required. There is nothing wrong about being mysterious. You reserve a certain part of life for you.
Q. Why are you so inaccessible to the press?
A
Actually, I used to be accessible to the press at one time. But some people, maybe because of the nature of their job, put up some nasty stories about me. Some of them were hurtful and beyond my endurance level. So I started withdrawing to save myself from the false stories and them from the awkwardness of writing wrong stories. I understand journalists have to do their job and our friendship will be secondary. So it’s better to stay at a distance, so it doesn’t hurt too much.
Q. You’ve been seen with Ranbir Kapoor in public places these days. What do you have to say to that?
A
I go to the movies with a group of friends. But the media dissects every story that comes in these stupid tabloids. At the end of the day, I don’t think it makes sense to talk about one’s personal life and to discuss with whom you went where.
Q. You once said, “I’m madly in love with the idea of being in love.” Do you still believe in that?
A
That sounds like a statement I would have made when I was young. I’m not so madly in love with the idea of being in love anymore. The idea of being in love sounds very yesterday.
Q. What’s different between then and now?
A
Life. Life in the movies isn’t as easy as you think. We don’t just love each other, hold hands and skip into the sunny world. There are a whole lot of things in between. It isn’t as easy as it seems.
Q. Would you tattoo your partner’s name on your body to show your love?
A
I don’t think so. Personally no.
Q. Which star kid do you envy the most?
A
Envy is one of the few things I don’t experience. Because it questions your whole existence, because then you wished you had an X mother and a Y father.
Q. If SRK is the king of B-town who’s the queen?
A
Not me!
Q. If a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach the way to a woman’s heart is…
A
Kindness.
Q. Kapoor or Khan, which is the more powerful surname in the industry?
A
Wrong, wrong statements.
Q. An actress you would like to star opposite in the female version of Dostana?
A
Anushka Sharma, she’s really nice-looking. And we got along well while shooting Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Q. One film you regret doing?
A
None.
Q. If you woke up as Ranbir Kapoor one morning…
A
I would be grateful to have so many wonderful directors wanting to work with me.
Q. Katrina as Sheila or Katrina as Chikni Chameli…
A
For me both were two different attempts, so why would I prefer one and not the other?
Q. If you were a dish you would be?
A
Potato! Aloo… I can blend with anyone. I can go with anything quietly.
Q. Your blondest moment?
A
Just now when I asked you, 10 years from 2009 would be what year.
Q. If you had date issues and had to pick one filmmaker from Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar or Kabir Khan, who would it be?
A
In my opinion, there’s no date issue in the film industry. Dates are just an excuse for not wanting to do the film. If you want to do the film, you’ll adjust the dates somehow.
Q. Which have been your least exciting roles so far?
A
I won’t pick any names. If it’s the least satisfying role, then it’s my judgment that has gone wrong. I should take responsibility for it rather than bring down the director and his attempt.
Q. What has been the most difficult challenge for you in the industry?
A
The language. Learning the language has been the most challenging thing. It’s been physically draining. The number of hours I’ve put in is huge. And no matter what, you’re constantly struggling because the fact is that it’s not your language.
Q. You’ve toned up tremendously. Tall skinny actresses seem to be trending?
A
No I don’t think so. Actresses who are not so tall and not so skinny are doing very well. I believe people should be how they want to be. I’m the way I am because I’m training for Dhoom 3. Honestly, I’m happy with what I am right now; I always wanted to be like this. I’m doing this for myself. This is how I feel happy with my body. Nine months ago I was not in this shape and I was still happy with my body. Dhoom 3 has a requirement for me to be fit. Hence I’m working out.
Q. What do actresses seek in a project? Director or top actors?
A
You should look at the director first. The director should come first. He is the one who’ll make the movie.
Q. So far which has been your toughest role?
A
Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
Q. Why?
A
Toughness is not only about physical work. Dhoom 3 would be the most difficult role physically. But in JTHJ, I had a tough time understanding the situation.
