RedRed is the most powerful colour of the colour wheel. Red is the colour of fire and passion, and it represents our desires and cravings in all areas. Red can be seen as a stressful colour and has been shown to increase heart rate and blood pressure, so use it with caution. Red has been shown to stimulate the appetite and conversation but if you're on a diet, maybe you could try blue instead?
Red is the hottest colour of the spectrum and can make anywhere seem warm and cosy, so is ideal for people who suffer from the cold. Red is not a good choice where calmness and clear thinking are

required, it’s energetic frequency is not conductive to areas where rest is needed, so it’s not a good choice for relaxation areas.
As with other colours, the psychological effects of red depend very much on its intensity. So while vibrant, saturated hues of red have been shown to raise people's heart rate and blood pressure, you might feel quite comfortable with muted, warm, earthy shades of red around you, for example:
· red ochre
· venetian red
· brick red
That's the type of red where you get all the warmth, comfort and energy, but with none of the exaggerated pulse.
Secrets to the Colour Red# 1: The first secret to using the colour red in the home is using it in moderation. Too much of anything can become an eyesore, and this goes for colours as well. While some colours are not as easily overdone as the colour red, there are still many that are. Using the colour red throughout the

home can be a little bit tricky, but first and foremost think-moderation.
# 2: There are likely thousands if not millions of different shades of the colour red. Another big secret to using this colour throughout the home is choosing the shade that fits best. Warm colours are more vibrant and energetic while cool colours are toned down and calm. A nice warm red is great for a kitchen area or the family room while a cool toned red is great for the bedroom.
# 3: Using the colour red around the home as an accent colour is often the best idea. Start small with some accent pieces such as throw pillows on a couch to spice the room up or an area rug that includes various red tones to add some life to the living room or dining area. If small accents work well for you and your taste, then you may begin adding some larger pieces into the home that are also the colour red.
Try a few red vases or sculptures in the dining room, or maybe a painting that is primarily the colour red in a room. As you find the tones and the shades of the colour that you appreciate the most you may use it more and more. Just remember that moderation is always the key so no matter how much you come to enjoy the colour red do not overdo it!
# 4: Wall colour plays a huge role in the colour choices that you should make when it comes to the rest of the homes’ interior. When choosing to use the colour red as a wall colour it is best to stick to accent walls and not entire rooms. Paint the bearing wall red or paint only part of a wall red with a wallpaper separating the zones. Choose a wall colour that will be inviting and not too dark. Remember that when using the colour red on the walls the paint will make the room feel smaller if it is too dark so keep the colour as light as possible in small rooms.
# 5: Red furniture has become increasingly popular throughout the recent years. For a contemporary look, a red sofa can be placed in a living room and it will add style and class to the appeal of the room. If you choose to use red furniture in a room then you must coordinate the accents with the colour scheme as well. Wall coverings and glassware are all great accent pieces to use in a room that has red furniture. Do not paint the walls the colour red if the furniture in the room is also red as this will be an overabundance of the colour and will take away the appeal.
Red Furnishings That Inspire
Let’s start with a little inspiration. Below you will find images of rooms featuring red furnishings… Just like a woman in a red dress can light up a room, a chair upholstered in red leather can be the true focal point of your interior. Use it as the one bright spot in your space, or combine it with other rich tones.
White walls, light wood, red chairs… Perfect! In fact, red is a popular colour for dining chairs and kitchen stools. There’s something about this colour that stimulates the appetite. Maybe it’s because furniture covered in red looks good enough to eat!
As I’ve mentioned in one of my earlier article that red is particularly stunning in rooms with white, gray and black accents. It’s modern as well as dramatic as red is the ultimate colour of “attraction” as I tag it.
Speaking of red dining chairs, the result of a red coffee table can be just as stunning. It’s like merging of a bright centerpiece with the rest of the space like vintage-meets-modern living space. Yellow and orange are other prominent colours to be used after red as they belong to the same family of colours. The combination of this family of colour is always radiant against the backdrop of white walls.
Nothing makes work more interesting like a vibrant red desk! Our eyes would be drawn to the desk in a room. Perhaps painting your desk red will have a magnetic effect, drawing you to your work space for the most productive of sessions… This for me is an attractive way for working because otherwise work and its related furnishing are always boring for me and tends to make me lose interest very easily. Work spaces should be vibrant so that it makes you more energetic and lively and fun thing to do rather than stressing and boring. Red does stimulate your mood and makes one more energetic.
Don’t forget that combining red with other vivid shades can be absolutely stunning!
